INSURANCE SURVEYORS WEBSITES

A surveyor serves as a professional intermediary between the insured and the insurance company. An individual or a corporate organisation interested in becoming a surveyor or loss assessor must apply through the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). They mainly only work in non-life situations. Their role is to determine the true extent of the loss and to prevent making misleading claims.

Insurance policies come in a variety of shapes and sizes, depending on the level of protection you require at different phases of your life. Many people get insurance to cover their home, business machinery, freight, crops, live animals, and other items in addition to their Motor, lives and health. However, there may be discrepancies between what an insurer and the insured believe the actual loss is when a claim is filed.

When a claim is filed, however, there may be discrepancies between what an insurer and the insured believe is the actual loss in a given case. As a result, if a claim is likely to exceed a predetermined limit under a general insurance policy, the insurer dispatches a surveyor or loss assessor to examine the damage. In an ideal world, the surveyor and loss assessors would examine the damage and report on it without the involvement of the insurance or the insured.

A surveyor and loss assessor for automotive insurance must have a degree in mechanical or vehicle engineering, a surveyor for maritime insurance must have a degree in marine engineering or naval architecture, and a crop insurer’s surveyor must have a degree in agricultural sciences.

All surveyors in the country are tracked by the IRDAI. The limits are reviewed every three years. The surveyor can be appointed by either the insurer or the insured. The surveyor’s report, on the other hand, has no bearing on the insurer. An insured can submit a complaint with the insurance ombudsman if she is unhappy with an insurer’s final settlement offer.

Surveyors are brought in when expected damages exceed their limits for any insurance claim. In addition, insurers have a system in place to identify and reimburse these professionals. If you wanted to hire a surveyor, you’d have to pay for it yourself. A surveyor and loss assessor is required to submit a report to the insurer within 30 days of being appointed, as well as a copy of the report to the insured, together with comments on the loss assessment. If necessary, the surveyor might request an extension while also informing the insured. A surveyor must provide the report within 6 months after the date of employment, regardless of any extensions.
